COMPLETE TENSIOMETER WITH PRESSURE SENSOR & MANOMETER - STE 600

What do I measure?

The total soil water suction in the tensiometer tube (also known as soil water potential or hydraulic charge)

APPLICATIONS

AGRICULTURE
Precise management of irrigations.
Management of adjusted water stress levels for seed production.
AGRONOMY / ENVT
Studies on water bulbs in soils.
Water stress management for modeling.
Checking water potential levels before starting a soil solution sampling campaign.
Following water percolation periods.
HYDROLOGY
Water potential measurements in unsaturated soils.
Soil water caracteristic curves.
Studies on water flows : percolation…
Studies on water ressources : refilling of the water table

Designed to reply to need of acquisition of the information, the electronic tensiometer STE 600 replies in all points to this objective. To make this and so as to guarantee the work of a machine without break, the constructor proposes various solutions to obtain a reliable instrument in difficults climatical conditions.
The temperature compensation, necessary on all devices running in the field, protects the tensiometer against all drifts caused directly by temperature gradients in field. The visual control of the measure undertaken by the tensiometer can prove very useful many times. One quick look allows you to know that all is well in your device.
Perfect measure of the hydric potential : by its position on the tensiometric tube, the STE 600 system presents an electrical reply that will not be in any way influenced by presence of air in the tensiometer. Indeed, the electronic collector is going to be perfectly saturated during the preparation of the tensiometer and its position will forbid it all give-back of water even if the tensiometer rest blocked on-900 @@hPa during several hours.
The trapping of a liquid in the cell of the BOURDON manometer allows your tensiometer to make a measure truly linked to the potential of the water in the ground and non of… the ambient temperature! This liquid contained in the manometer will not be extracted, what is a pledge of very important security.
Finally, the possibility for the user to connect this electronics tensiometer STE 600 on almost all DATALOGGERS available on the market or on your OWN DATALOGGER or laboratory datalogger. The OUTPUT of the electronics tensiometer STE 600 (0-100 mVolts) allows it to be present on all field experimentations.

Key Advantages

VISUAL CONTROL
TEMPERATURE COMPENSATION
MONITORING (by connection to a data logger)

Disadvantages
Electronic sensor sensitive to frost & to overpressure (ex : if the operator pushes to hard on the silicone stopper)

The standard set

Each STE 600 type tensiometer tube is delivered ready to use with a Bourdon manometer and a SKT 850T electronic pressure sensor fixed to the tube

You also need

An auger to install the device, ref. STM 21600. . Antifreeze liquid must be added to the water to protect the sensor. A vacuum syringe, ref. STM 21750 to prepare the tensiometer tubes before placing them.

Do the tensiometer tubes need to be prepared ?

As all tensiometers, these tubes have a porous ceramic cup glued on the bottom. Before placing them into the soil, the ceramic must be saturated with gasless water. This can be done with a vacuum syringe, type STM 21750.

How is the sensor powered ?

By the battery supply of the datalogger.
